PAFLAR End of Year 2022 Message

23rd December 2022

Dear All,

On behalf of the PAFLAR Board, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all our members and partners who have supported PAFLAR’s initiatives and activities during the year 2022. It has been a fascinating year and we have joined hands together as we aspire to achieve our dream of equal access to quality pediatric rheumatology healthcare for children in Africa and across the globe with Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases(RMDs).

Some of our greatest achievements in line with this mission were our ongoing monthly educational PAFLAR webinars with over 3400 registered participants this year. The ongoing PAFLAR-JIR collaboration resulted in clinicians across Africa participating in the educational JIR Winter School 2021 as speakers and participants. We held our second virtual congress with over 1000 registered participants from over 70 countries that culminated in the publication of research work by 400+ upcoming researchers from across Africa and the globe https://academic.oup.com/rheumatology/issue/61/Supplement_2 . In the spirit of patient-centred care, we had the honor to hold various virtual patient advocacy days and avail patient tailored educational material https://paflar.org/patient-information/ . As we endeavour to generate data to improve our practice and inform poilicy makers, we launched our first ever pan-african JIA registry https://paflar.org/research/ .We appreciate you All for your dedication and commitment towards achieving our mission. We are grateful to all our members who have committed to joining our various working groups to achieve the PAFLAR vision and mission.

We look forward to an exciting year in 2023 as we strive to strengthen and expound on our networks and partnerships while upholding our core values of commitment, honesty, inclusivity, accountability, innovation, quality and excellence.

As the Nigerian author Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha once said “ Teamwork is the secret that makes common people achieve uncommon results”, may we then strive to strengthen our unity of purpose as we strive to improve the lives of children with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.

We wish you All a Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous 2023 full of hope, joy, optimism, good health and great tidings.

Kind regards,
Dr Angela Migowa
President of PAFLAR
